The collection consists of one manuscript (probably a copy) of certain proposals of law (Capitulos Geraes) submitted to King John IV of Portugal, in the Cortes of Lisbon in the year 1641, with his answer (which became law), published in Lisbon on September 12, 1642, the second year of the reign of His Majesty and 38th of his age. These laws are relative to the right of succession to the throne. Other provisions concern the nationality of princes and princesses.
